Possible Jobs with HSBC in Dublin

There might be loads of jobs moving to Ireland if this rumour about HSBC is tru.
HSBC, Britain’s largest bank, is believed to be considering moving its global headquarters to Ireland for tax reasons.
HSBC, Britain’s largest bank, is believed to be considering moving its global headquarters to Ireland for tax reasons.Speculation has be en mounting in London that HSBC is considering moving to Ireland after the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) suggested in a pre-budget submission to British Chancellor Gordon Brown last week that a major British retail bank was considering moving its global headquarters outside Britain for tax reasons.Last October, Chris Spooner, HSBC’s head of financial planning and tax, told a conference in Britain that the bank could save as much as stg£400 million (€594million) by locating its global headquarters outside Britain. He also disclosed that the bank had been approached by a number of unnamed low-cost tax jurisdictions.

A spokesman for HSBC would neither confirm nor deny speculation in London business circles that it is preparing to move its global headquarters here.‘‘There is no current review under way,” he said when asked if the bank was considering a possible move here. The spokesman added that the bank does take periodic reviews every three years, but was unable to give dates for either the next review or the last review. He said that tax was one of the main criteria when HSBC was reviewing where to locate the bank’s businesses, but said the regulatory environment was also a factor. The speculation has focused on Ireland because HSBC already moved some of its backroom operations to Dublin earlier this year bringing the total number of HSBC employees in Ireland to about 600.In April this year, Taoiseach Bertie Ahern attended the opening ceremony of HSBC’s fund administration and training centre in Sandyford, Dublin. At the time, the Taoiseach told HSBC chairman Sir John Bond: ‘‘I hope you make a fortune here.”Meanwhile, the CBI fears that Britain is missing out on major foreign global investment projects due to a loss of tax competitiveness.Ireland is seen as picking up more than its fair share of this business due to our low corporation tax base.
